Straight out of the box, the Cielo X1 2.0 looks like it’s had a pretty big makeover; all the way from its upper material, through to the cutouts in the midsole which have shifted from lateral to medial to save even more on weight.
ㅤ
Performance focused updates
A stack height that scales to the shoe size, the Cielo X1 2.0 could reach as much as 48mm. However, when scaled to the shoe size measured by World Athletics, the Cielo X1 falls below the regulations, which gives an unusual advantage to those with bigger shoe sizes.
Uncompromising on weight, the weight savings from its predecessor comes from changes to the cutouts which previously were found on the lateral parts of the midsole, to now being found as medial cutouts.
HOKA has maintained its dual layer of PEBA foam which sandwiches an updated winged carbon fibre and an even more aggressive rocker - an ideal performer for those with a heel strike.
ㅤ
ㅤ
A feast for the eyes
Maintaining the essence of being one of the fastest shoes HOKA has ever produced, the Cielo X1 2.0 has modified the upper that makes it stand out for its lightness and more reassuring and secure fit - something that some runners found was lacking in the first version.
Smaller innovations have been introduced in the sole to add further weight reductions with slightly less rubber in the heel area.
ㅤ
ㅤ
The dedicated performer
There's no denying the amount of technology that is on display from this shoe, and the Cielo X1 2.0 lends itself to those looking to perform high quality miles in training and competition at speed.
Whereas before, there might have been some debate about the distance in which the Cielo X1 would be optimal, the Cielo X1 2.0 proves to be the ideal performer over marathon distances as well as now being more of an option for half marathon distances over the Rocket X2.
