Milano Nord parkrun with Fabio Giudici

What is parkrun? Where can you attend a parkrun event in Italy?

parkrun is a free community event where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer or just attend. parkruns have a relatively recent but highly successful history: the idea was born in 2004 in London's Bushy Park, when Paul Sinton-Hewitt organised a free run event with 13 participants. From this small beginning, the concept quickly spread throughout the UK and then worldwide. In Italy, parkruns arrived in 2015 with the first event in Milan, precisely in Parco Nord. Since then, the movement has grown steadily, spreading to various Italian cities and helping to promote an active and social lifestyle.

The key features that have contributed to the success of parkruns are very simple and for everyone:

- Free and accessible for all

- Weekly regularity (held every Saturday morning)

- Friendly and inclusive atmosphere

- Volunteer-based management

How to sign up to parkrun?

To participate in the Milano Nord parkrun, the first step is to register. Simply fill in the online form at https://www.parkrun.org.uk/register/?section=form with your data. After submission, you will almost instantly receive a confirmation email containing a link. This will allow you to download your personal barcode, which you can either print and bring along with you, or show on your phone when you finish.

What kind of transport you can use to go to Milano Nord parkrun?

The most convenient way to get there is by metro with the M5 line, ‘Bignami’ or ‘Ponale’ stops (I personally recommend the ‘Ponale’ stop for those who want to do a little warm-up). Obviously eco-friendly methods are preferred, but should you arrive by car from other parts of Lombardy or Italy, the area is well stocked with parking spaces where you can leave your vehicle.

Where is Milano Nord parkrun?

Milano Nord parkrun takes place in the Parco Nord, one of the city's most picturesque and scenic parks, located just outside the city centre. The route consists of two very pleasant loops of 2.5k each, for a total of 5k, almost completely tree-lined (therefore very pleasant in summer) and no sudden changes of direction.

Is parkrun just for advanced runners or are beginners welcome?

The route is suitable for all levels of walkers or runners, from beginners to advanced! The event is known for its strong sense of community, welcoming both experienced runners and beginners. If you don’t fancy walking or running, you can get involved by volunteering or speciating - no experience needed! It is also a popular meeting point for the city's international residents, contributing to creating an international and inclusive atmosphere.

The simplicity of the event and the sense of belonging that is created among the participants are the key elements that make the Milano Nord parkrun a rewarding community experience for all involved.

Is there anyone that can help you if it's your first parkrun?

Absolutely! parkrun events are run by friendly and helpful volunteers who welcome you with a briefing before setting off, and will be there for you if you need any help. On the parkrun website you can even sign up to become a volunteer.

What should I bring to a parkrun event?

You can wear anything you like to parkrun, you don't need any special gear, but for a parkrun in the summer we'd suggest:

- Shorts and t-shirt. At SportsShoes you will find the parkrun x SportsShoes collection.

- Comfortable shoes
