Our Favourite Trail Running Routes in Yorkshire
16 June 2013
On the theme of Runspiration, your route and the scenery can make or break your run. We thought we’d share our top 4 Yorkshire trail runs from the team at SportsShoes.com.
ㅤ
Swinsty Reservoir: Park at the National Trust car park. There are a series of runs around the reservoir depending on the time you have. Great scenery and even on a Sunday morning you don’t get a multitude of people, allowing you to run in peace! Can get a bit boggy in the winter, but then that adds to the challenge!
ㅤ
Valley Gardens/Pine Woods in Harrogate: This is still a designated adidas trail run, and rightly so. If you’re staying there for a conference, this is a great short run to lift your spirits after a day of meetings. Starting at the Gardens gates, your run takes you through the spectacular Gardens, then over the road and into the Pine Woods for a totally British woodland adventure. Enjoy.
ㅤ
The Dales Way: This is the famous path that takes you from Ilkley to Lake Windermere. It is 81-miles in length, and whilst running 3 marathons is not everyone’s cup of tea, the route is stunning for any length of run. From Ilkley you can run the full length of Wharfedale, then climbing out onto the roof of England crossing the Pennines, before heading for the stunning Lakes.
ㅤ
Dick Hudson’s rugged run: The Millennium Way Walk is a 45-mile circular route around the west of the Bradford District. Our favourite bit though is starting at the Dick Hudson pub (light lunch advised!) and following it all the way into Ilkley. The route is about 4 miles and is absolutely stunning going over the top of the Aire Valley, dropping down into the Wharfe Valley.
