Staying true to its legendary roots and trail status, this version is lighter with an even more powerful, grippy connection to the ground and faster mud evacuation. The original Salomon Speedcross first hit the shelves way back in 2006 and soon built up a cult following with Kilian Jornet winning the UTMB in 2008.
Since then, we have enjoyed a number of different Speedcross models; with the current generation, the Speedcross 5, last released back in 2019. In a world where we are used to our favourite running shoes being updated every year, 3 years without a change is very unusual.
This shoe of course shares many of the same characteristics as previous generations – Contagrip outsole, Sensifit construction, Energycell midsole compound and of course, the famous quickdraw lacing system that has helped to make Salomon shoes so iconic. After all, if it ain’t broke – don’t mess with it!

So what are the main differences compared to the Speedcross 5?
Best suited to mixed terrain, especially soft and muddy ground, an updated outsole means the Speedcross 6 sheds mud more quickly than ever before. Plus, an improved lug pattern with a 5mm lug depth means it delivers an even better grip on wet and muddy surfaces.
The Speedcross 6 is a neutral fit and has the same 10mm drop as its predecessor, but a height differential of 32mm at the heel to 22mm at the forefoot (slightly lower than the Speedcross 5 at 35mm-25mm).
It’s also a much lighter model, weighing in at 298g compared to 320g for the Speedcross 5 – making it far more appealing for both training and racing.
