From ZERO to IRONWOMAN: Welcome Hattie Pearson

From ZERO to IRONWOMAN, Hattie Pearson has been on an incredible fitness journey and this year things are about to ramp up! She is setting herself the challenge of doing her first ever Trail Ultra.

Hattie will be sharing her journey as part of our Nike Communities In Residence, where she hopes to encourage more women to take on the trails.

We will be sharing info about trail events, meet-ups and how you can get involved soon, but for now you can learn more about Hattie below.

At the start of 2023 I threw myself in at the deep end with triathlons. I did my first full distance ironman in Barcelona in October. I went from 0 to IronWoman in 9 months. It was a big sacrifice, socially, mentally and physically. I had no idea what to expect.

When you do something new you don't know what to expect, but when you give it your best shot you kinda realise what it takes. What excites me as an individual is trying new things. I’m always up for a challenge, up for physically pushing myself. It’s all about mental and physical strength coming together. It doesn't happen overnight. Consistency leads to results.

Working with Nike and SportsShoes this year, I set myself the goal to run more. Hills really scare me as they're so hard to run up but also trails are so much more uneven, they require mental focus and stimulation. Prolonged concentration leads to mental and physical exhaustion. I have a new and exciting challenge, I really want to run to an ultra, which is very scary. I’ve only ever done 2 half marathons, 1 marathon and 1 mara during an ironman. It requires complete new mindset and mental expectations. It’s all about learning new skills - an ultra not going to be easy, that's a given.

A big part of my journey in triathlon was the influence of 10IronWomen - a group of women who inspired me to join the gang. It began with 10 women in 2019 and has now grown to a network of 250-300 women. All about supporting one another, all abilities, all ethnic backgrounds, all ages, non-binary, inclusive and diverse. No question is too stupid, we've all been beginners once. Peer support is so integral to everyone's journey as you lean on those with more experience for advice.

On this zero-to-ultra journey, I want to take as many women and non-binary people through the journey with me. Training can be an isolating and lonely so when opportunities to train in a group/socially come up, it adds the experience of supporting one another, offering advice and having a connection through sport, being out in nature.
