Engineered Mesh Upper

The upper of the Gel-Pulse 16 is crafted from an engineered mesh to deliver superior comfort and breathability. It features micro-perforations which allow hot air to escape whilst fresh air simultaneously flows in for a pleasant cooling sensation. This prevents feet from overheating so you can stay focused on the road ahead. The mesh is soft against the skin for a comfortable wearing experience and ultra-lightweight so it won't weigh you down or hold you back. The traditional lacing system allows you to lock in the fit whilst the padded tongue and collar give plush softness. Heel and tongue tabs allow you to easily pull the shoe on and off, and the upper has been made with recycled plastic for an eco-conscious choice.

FlyteFoam Midsole

The midsole of the Gel-Pulse 16 has been made from FlyteFoam which provides the perfect balance of light weight and rebound properties. The foam provides plenty of protection, bounce and comfort, with unmatched shock absorption and a lively ride. FlyteFoam is 55% lighter than the industry standard midsole compounds and it buffers against the ground to protect you from unnecessary stress and fatigue. FlyteFoams reinforced, organic fibres let the material bounce back to its original shape after every run - so you can train harder, more frequently for longer, without the worry that your shoes might not be able to take it. In the rearfoot ASICS signature GEL technology adds to the bouncy nature of the midsole. It works to reduce shock during the impact phase, sparing your joints as you strike down onto hard, unforgiving concrete and allowing for a smooth transition to mid-stance. Completing the midsole is an eco-dyed OrthoLite Hybrid Maxlite sockliner which provides added underfoot cushioning for long training sessions and keeps feet dry. It has been manufactured using less water and producing less carbon emissions for an environmentally-friendly option.

AHARPLUS Outsole

Supreme grip and traction are guaranteed with the AHARPLUS outsole. ASICS' High Abrasion Rubber Plus is made with a tough rubber compound which is used in heavy-contact or high-wear areas to help keep the shoe strong wear after wear. This high abrasion outsole provides a firm grip and works to protect itself from damage and protect users from losing control and slipping. Strategically positioned in critical areas of the outsole, such as the heel plug, this exceptionally durable compound is 50% more durable than standard ASICS High Abrasion Rubber, for maximum protection and durability. Creating a strong bond with the ground beneath it, the outsole allows you to stay in full control at all times. Flex grooves also adorn the outsole to provide added traction underfoot, allowing for natural foot flexion for easy, unhindered paces.

This shoe is designed with speed and comfort in mind, with hours spent testing it at the ASICS Institute of Sport Science (ISS) in Japan.
