ASICS Gel-Nimbus® 18
18 years of Innovation
Fluidfit® Seamless Upper
The latest addition to the Nimbus® series continues to cement the Nimbus® as one of ASICS' most recognized high performance shoes. The new GEL® placement has been informed by specialist research, and is strategically positioned in a new location to offer increased cushioning and shock absorption, and help to improve the GEL®'s adaptability and mitigate brisk impacts. Improved Guidance Line® technology harmoniously syncs components to embrace the motions of the runner's gait cycle.
Fluidfit® Seamless Upper
The GEL-Nimbus' upper is extremely lightweight and comfortable, thanks to its seamless design. The upper construction also utilises Asics' FluidFit™ technology, which combines multi-directional stretch mesh with stretch reinforcements that adapt to the wearer's foot, creating a truly customised glove-like fit for the wearer for added comfort and performance. The mesh panels allow fresh air to penetrate the outer to keep the wearer's feet cool, dry and comfortable. The Comfordry™ X-40 Sockliner offers increased comfort, as well as moisture wicking qualities. It helps to draw moisture away from the wearer's skin and facilitate its evaporation. Both the Comfordry™ X-40 sockliner and the mesh panels therefore work in tandem to maintain a comfortable internal environment.
The upper also features supportive structures. The FluidFit™ mesh panels offer support, while an Exoskeletal heel counter cradles the heel to provide improved support and create an improved heel fitting environment. This helps to minimise chafing and the energy lost during movement. Additional memory foam works in unison with the heel counter to securely hug the Achilles to provide extra comfort and stability within the shoe. Independently placed eyelets disperse lace tension, creating a customized fitting environment and enhanced upper comfort.
Fluidride® Midsole
The ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18's midsole features Fluidride® technology, a 2 layered midsole construction featuring a combination of both SpEVA® and Solyte® materials. Consequently, the midsole offers comfort and durability at a light weight. The SpEVA® element of the midsole also helps to minimise the energy lost during the toe off phase of the gait cycle, and consequently provides extra energy to each step that you take. Additionally, the midsole features an updated rearfoot and forefoot GEL® cushioning system, which sets the heel gel pad at an angle so it is closer to the foot as you roll into each stride. Each GEL® pad attenuates shock during the heel strike and toe-off phases of the gait cycle, and allows movement in multiple planes as the foot transitions through the gait cycle. The result is a more natural ride, and reduced stress on your joints whilst exercising.
Asics' design philosophy employs linked components to enhance the foot's natural gait from heel strike to toe-of, which is accomplished through an Impact Guidance System® (I.G.S. ®) which helps to encourage a neutral running style, and a more comfortable ride. Guidence Line® technology is also included to encourage a good running and improve gait efficiency.
AHAR+® Outsole
The outsole incorporates Durasponge® technology, a blown AHAR® rubber compound that gives enhanced cushioning and durability in the forefoot. AHAR+® provides excellent grip, and is three times more durable than Asics' standard rubber compound, whilst also being lighter than standard AHAR®. AHAR+® is strategically placed in areas of the outsole that are subjected to the most stress to extend the shoes' lifespan. Asics' Trusstic System® works to improve the outsole by reducing its weight, without sacrificing the structural integrity or comfort of the shoe.
