Hoka Mafate 4 Women's Trail Running Shoe
The Mafate 4 is designed to tackle any mountain terrain and takes all previous stability and cushioning elements to the next level. The oversized Active Foot Frame rests in an RMAT chassis for increased support and a reduction in outsole rubber provides a higher level of cushioning and traction. ComfortFrame upper construction in the heel keeps even our toughest shoe comfortable on the foot and a wider toe-box with TPU toe guard keeps your toes protected.
Air Mesh Upper
Hoke One One Mafate addresses the past issues of the bulkiness and clumsiness in the Mafate line by introducing a 4th version that is more than 2 ounces lighter than the past model. This is a very significant weight reduction and should translate to longer, more nimble and better performance on the trail.
An Air Mesh makes the Hoka Mafate 4 a very breathable shoe, enabling the air to ventilate throughout the shoe, keeping the feet feeling cool and comfortable. With a lightweight, No Sew SpeedFrame construction, it provides a seamless and supportive upper which also helps reduce the risk of irritation to provide the most comfortable run for the wearer. A new svelte and well-fitting upper helps in the weight reduction and provides a more comfortable and foot-wrapping fit. Hoka pulls off this due to the update by using thinner and lesser overlays. For toe protection, Hoka uses a Reinforced Toe Cap to ensure a more comfortable run on those rocky and loose trails.
Late Stage Meta-Rocker Midsole
The Arch Support gets a little better in this shoe as Hoka has increased the density of the medial foam for better support, especially for ultra-long runs on the unpredictable and uneven trails. Another Hoka exclusive technology is their own EVA, which is 30% softer than the standard EVA. This makes for a cloud-like feel regarding cushioning. The RMAT midsole is made of a more durable material and is slightly firmer. When used with the Hoka EVA, they form the right mix of responsive cushioning, support and protection.
Equipped with a design called the Active Foot Frame which is basically the entire structure of the shoe that is engineered to envelop the foot and let it "sink" into the midsole. This takes away the unstable notion when runners see the ultra-sized cushioning and structure. The Mafate features a Late Stage Meta-Rocker which simply refers to the midsole shape in the forefoot. Hoka comes with a noticeable raise of heel and forefoot areas, hence the use of work 'rocker' much like a chair by the same name. This design element is meant to smoothen the transition/gait process through delayed foot-strikes and supported toe-offs. The 'Meta' part is a shortened form for metatarsus, which is a group of bones extended from midfoot to forefoot. An easier way is to follow the foot arch; the metatersals heads start right at the end of the arch curve and this is the area where the foot flexes during toe-offs. The Late Stage Meta-Rocker has a smaller area of curved raise and this means that the forefoot transition will feel a bit 'flatter' than the Early Stage Meta Rocker and produce a little work for push-offs.
