Studies have shown that our bodies can make use of up to 90 grams of carbohydrates per hour so Maurten have created the Drink Mix 320 CAF 100. One Drink Mix 320 CAF 100 sachet, mixed with 500 ml of water, contains 80 grams of carbohydrates to provide you with hydration and energy.

Scientists realised in the 1960s that drinking carbohydrate solutions during exercise increased performance so with a mixture of sugar, salts and lemonade, the first sports drink was born. However, carbohydrate drinks can also cause problems as our stomachs can't cope well with high concentrations of sugar, often resulting in slower gastric emptying and GI distress. Maurten have created a range of sports fuels that harness Hydrogel technology for carbohydrate-rich and natural sports drinks and energy gels that our bodies can tolerate.

What is Hydrogel?

Hydrogels are widely used in the food industry, often as thickeners and structurants. A hydrogel has a biopolymer and water-based structure with very small pores. As a three-dimensional network with the ability to hold water, it looks and behaves a bit like a kitchen sponge. Maurten have found a way to build hydrogels with natural food ingredients. And they have filled the structure with the most efficient source of energy around - carbohydrates. The hydrogels in their sports drinks are built from a combination of two natural ingredients: Alginate - extracted from the cell walls of brown algae. Pectin - found in apples, lemons, carrots and tomatoes, to name a few. These two dietary fibres have been used for decades within the food industry. Combined under precisely the right circumstances, alginate and pectin form a pH-sensitive hydrogel.

Maurten have built their Drink Mix 320 CAF 100 on this Hydrogel technology. When mixed with water, you're provided with a liquid sports drink that contains a high concentration of carbohydrates and caffeine. This sports drink then instantly converts to Hydrogel when met with the acidity of the stomach, enabling smooth transportation of the drink through the stomach and to the intestine where the water, salt and carbohydrates are absorbed.

The Maurten Drink Mix 320 CAF 100 can be used for building up caffeine levels during activity. It can be used on its own or along with other caffeine sources to achieve sufficient caffeine levels which can be beneficial in sports performance and have been shown to promote alertness and reduce perceived effort and pain.

Thanks to the use of Hydrogel technology, Maurten have discovered a way to increase the amount of carbohydrates, reduce the risk of gastrointestinal problems and remove all unnecessary ingredients that don't aid in your performance. With no added flavour, colourants or preservatives, Drink Mix 320 CAF 100 contains only natural ingredients and a lot of energy.

Now easier to mix, lighter and less thick. Based on athlete feedback, a lighter consistency aims to enhance the performance of the Drink Mix 320 for more athletes. Improved with enhanced mixability and solubility, the Drink Mix 320 has undergone a new production technique that improves the mixing and how quickly the powder dissolves in water. Dissolving more easily and creating a new texture that more closely aligns with the Drink Mix 160, the fueling experience should now be the same, no matter whether you decide to consume liquid fuel with 80 grams or 40 grams of carbohydrates.

Further improvements come from a new ingredient. This new formula of the Drink Mix contains a minimal amount of sodium bicarbonate. Unlike the Maurten Bicarb System, Drink Mix does not counteract rising acidity in the blood during high-intensity exercise. Many sports drinks are acidic, which can harm tooth enamel. The sodium bicarbonate in Drink Mix helps to maintain a neutral pH (not lower than pH6).

Instructions

Mix the content of each sachet with 500 ml of water and shake well until dissolved (30-60s). Be accurate, the functionality depends on the ratio. The drink mix is designed to be mixed with water containing less than 100 mg/L of calcium. Consume the sports drink within 24 hours.

Optimised for water hardness up to 80mg calcium/L water, the Drink Mix has an improved tolerance to higher levels of calcium to ensure reliability and efficacy of the product in unfamiliar water sources, particularly when traveling to races.

Use the Maurten Drink Mix 320 CAF 100 on its own during shorter durations, or combine it with other Maurten products to ensure you have enough carbohydrates throughout your session.
