Energy capsulated in a natural hydrogel. Each serving contains 100 mg of caffeine and delivers 25 grams of carbohydrates. Built with seven ingredients - no added colourants, preservatives or flavours. Use the Gel 100 CAF 100 on its own during shorter durations or combine it with other Maurten products to ensure you have enough carbohydrates throughout your session.
Our bodies can make use of about 60 grams of ingested carbohydrates per hour, in the form of glucose or maltodextrin (glucose polymer) and using a 0.5:1 combination of fructose and glucose/maltodextrin allows uptake of up to 90 grams per hour. More recent studies have shown that increased fructose content, above 0.5:1 enables an even higher uptake so Maurten have developed the Gel 100 CAF 100 using a 0.8:1 fructose-to-glucose ratio. One serving contains 25 grams of carbohydrates.
Containing 100 mg of caffeine, which is equivalent to 1.5 espressos or one regular coffee, the Maurten Gel 100 CAF 100 also delivers more coffee compared to many of the traditional gels on the market.
The Maurten Gel 100 CAF 100 can be used for building up caffeine levels during activity. It can be used on its own or along with other caffeine sources to achieve sufficient caffeine levels which can be beneficial in sports performance and have been shown to promote alertness and reduce perceived effort and pain.
What is Hydrogel?
Hydrogels are widely used in the food industry, often as thickeners and structurants. A hydrogel has a biopolymer and water-based structure with very small pores. As a three-dimensional network with the ability to hold water, it looks and behaves a bit like a kitchen sponge.
Maurten have found a way to build hydrogels with natural food ingredients. And they have filled the structure with the most efficient source of energy around - carbohydrates.
The hydrogels are built from a combination of two natural ingredients:
Alginate - extracted from the cell walls of brown algae.
Pectin - found in apples, lemons, carrots and tomatoes, to name a few.
These two dietary fibres have been used for decades within the food industry. Combined under precisely the right circumstances, alginate and pectin form a pH-sensitive hydrogel.
