Nike Free Run 5.0 Shield Running Shoes
Ideal for runs up to 3 miles in less than ideal weather, the Nike Free Run 5.0 Shield returns to its roots as a natural motion shoe. An updated flex groove pattern and modified midsole foam provides more flexibility than its predecessor, creating a "barefoot" sensation with every step. At the upper, a weatherized design lets you continue your training during those rainy months.
Water-Repellent Upper
Designed to be the perfect winter running buddy, the Free Run 5.0 Shield has been constructed using shield technology which works incredibly hard to keep your feet dry and comfortable when running in wet conditions. The water-repellent upper works to shed light rain and snow to keep you warm and dry when the weather takes a turn for the worst. Developed with fewer layers, the Nike Free Run 5.0 boasts an adaptive upper that conforms naturally around the foot. The reduction in layers and stretchy nature of the fabric adapts to the shape of the foot to provide an abundance of comfort from stepping in, to stepping out. The stretch mesh is designed to fit like a second skin whilst also providing constant ventilation; its perforations increase airflow to create a better, healthier environment for your feet to thrive in. A bootie provides a snug, seamless fit that also allows you to slip the shoe on and off with ease. Supportive synthetic overlays on high-wear areas enhance durability and support, they work to protect against harsh terrain and increase structure. In addition, an asymmetrical lacing system is placed to the side to relieve pressure on the instep while still providing a locked-down fit. An absent heel counter gives your heel freedom to move whilst still promoting lockdown. Completing the upper is a reflective design integration which enhances your visibility during low-light conditions, keeping you safe and seen when running on the roads.
Low Density Midsole
Constructed using a low-density foam, the midsole of the Nike Free Run 5.0 allows you to feel connected to the ground. Sturdy IY002 foam fits closer to the foot than the previous version of the Free Run, allowing runners to feel connected to the ground beneath them. Providing more cushioning than the 3.0, this midsole follows the shape of your foot to provide high levels of comfort. It works to increase underfoot comfort and reduce shocks as you move throughout the gait cycle so you can go further for longer. Dual siping has been used on the top of the midsole to provide multi-directional flex, the Free Run 5.0 is 26% more flexible than its predecessor allowing for a more dynamic run. Completing the midsole is a one-layer sockliner which sits comfortably against the skin and give your foot a closer, more connected feeling to the ground.
Flexible Foam Outsole
The outsole of the Free Run 5.0 doubles as the midsole to drastically reduce on weight without impacting on performance. Hot knife siping has been used from heel-to-toe to allow for optimal flexibility with every step. The hot-knife cut expands with your step for flexible cushioning and an adaptive feel. Rubber traction pods on the forefoot and heel exist to enhance traction and durability; placed under the toe and heel, they supply reliable grip across every surface, resisting the traumas of foot-strike and toe-off to provide you with a long-lasting running buddy. As well as this, the outsole design has channels that quickly shed water as you run on the soggy ground to ensure optimal traction at all times. Completing the outsole is a 6mm offset that allows you to feel as close to the ground as barefoot running without compromising on cushioning. The outsole allows the foot to achieve the same 33% angle at toe-off that is achieved during barefoot running.
