The Mizuno Wave Daichi 7 is a great addition to the trail shoe market, with an exciting and technically advanced design. The shoe is a strong all-rounded trail shoe option ideal for lighter trails, paths and grass.
The upper is surrounded by a breathable and durable GORE-TEX membrane, providing protection from wetter surfaces, ensuring your feel stay dry when worn. This membrane is also designed to improve airflow throughout the shoe, enhancing breathability and comfort. The technology is reinforced with synthetic overlays in regions greater exposed to debris, providing a trail shoe option that has exceptional durability compared to many of its rivals. The design also incorporates a cushioned tongue, preventing chafing and entry of unwanted debris, with the traditional lacing system ensuring a secure and comfortable fit. The tab at the rear of the shoe is a great addition for ease of putting the shoe on.

The midsole combines the technologies of the EVA Rock Plate, Wave technology and U4ic foam to provide a protective, comfortable, and lightweight feel. The EVA Rock Plate, located under the foot, provides protection from solid objects such as rocks and stones encountered on the trails. The wave technology and accompanying lightweight U4icX foam function to absorb the shock of ground contact, before transferring energy harnessed at impact towards the forefoot for improved forward propulsion and stability. This technology is a welcomed addition for runners with a tendency to heel strike, providing greater protection to the foot and a good energy return.
The outsole consists primarily of a Michelin rubber layer, providing high-quality durable traction for both dry and wetter terrains. Mizuno have included their unique XtaRide lugs and Xtatic grooves, initially designed for firmer stone and rock terrains. However, from experience, this seems better suited to softer/wetter grass terrains due to the spread of the lugs and with a depth of 5mm.

The Mizuno Wave Daichi 7 provides a well-rounded option for trail running. With technological design equipped for a variety of terrains, albeit better suited to softer environments, this shoe is a great introduction to trail running and an option that should definitely be strongly considered for those looking to get out on the trails for the first time. At 300g, this highly protective, durable, and sufficiently supportive shoe can be recommended for training, however, other options more specific to the unique terrain could be considered for racing. This shoe is a lightweight, protective, and comfortable option for daily training on all types of off-road terrains. The Mizuno Wave Daichi 7 has become an increasingly regular fit into my current shoe rotation - a staple for easy off-road running. The comfort and cushioning associated with this shoe encourage regular usage throughout the week, without fear of wear due to exceptional durability.
